Today Climate Arc announces the launch of TransitionArc, a one-stop tool to assess corporate transitions and unlock finance at the speed and scale needed to meet climate goals. Registration is open today, with the tool going live on Thursday 27 June at 14:00 BST.
For the first time in the public domain, the best available corporate climate analysis has been brought together in one place – a unique collaboration between world-leading corporate climate data and analysis providers including Carbon Tracker Initiative, CDP, Corporate Knights, Global Canopy, InfluenceMap, the International Council on Clean Transportation, Science Based Targets Initiative, Transition Pathway Initiative and World Benchmarking Alliance.
This is a game changer for climate finance, as decision makers no longer need to contend with varying assessment frameworks, multiple rating agencies and conflicting metrics. The tool allows anyone to see where a company lies on the path to achieving key climate goals, including progress on greenhouse gas emissions, capital allocation, governance, policy engagement, and specific climate targets such as ‘net zero by 2030’. Companies can be compared within and across sectors, showing what ‘good’ looks like on the path to transition. They are also graded A-E on alignment with a 1.5°C pathway, with guidance on what needs to be done to improve their score.
The world is transitioning, and what companies do on climate matters for all of us. There are genuine reasons why some businesses can’t move as quickly, but the time for excuses is now over. With the launch of TransitionArc, companies and investors have the information they need to close the gaps between commitments, disclosure and action.
– Meryam Omi, Chief Executive, Climate Arc
TransitionArc is philanthropically funded, built as a public good for all. It can be used to accelerate climate action across a range of levers, including financing, corporate action, policy and regulation, and civil society. The tool can be used by:
- Companies to prioritize green solutions and attract investment
- Financial institutions to direct flows of capital to support corporate transitions
- Civil society to advocate for greater and more specific corporate accountability
- Governments and regulators to develop policy and accountability mechanisms
The TransitionArc data model allows for full transparency and traceability, linking company disclosure to analyzed outputs. The selected transition metrics are consistent with existing climate transition frameworks, including the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) and Transition Plan Taskforce (TPT).
Net zero requires acceleration on collaboration. We’re delighted to be part of Climate Arc’s flagship project, TransitionArc, which presents the climate community’s best available corporate transition analysis, clearly and reliably – driving decision makers to take tangible action on climate and accelerate the efforts needed to finance this transition.
– Vicky Sins, Decarbonisation and Energy Transformation Lead, World Benchmarking Alliance
Today’s launch of TransitionArc is just the beginning of ongoing collaboration across the climate ecosystem. Company, sectoral and regional coverage will expand over time and additional dimensions like deforestation, climate solutions and resilience will be added as new partners come onboard.
