To reach global net-zero goals, corporate climate action must speed up. Each AGM (Annual General Meeting) season, NGOs play a vital role: through campaigning, advocacy, and assessments of companies’ climate performance, they work to influence shareholder decisions toward greener, more sustainable corporate positions. Yet for NGOs working in this space, it’s not always clear what information exists and where to find it, to maximize their impact on AGM voting decisions.
In 2023, Climate Arc released a Climate AGM Tool to help address this. The tool brings together climate information on companies, provided by a range of nonprofit initiatives. Following feedback from users and partners, we’ve made some updates to the tool. This week, we’re excited to say that the beta 2.0 version is now live.
About the Climate AGM Tool
The tool is a directory of corporate climate analysis. Nonprofit initiatives can access it for free, and they can also use it to showcase their work. The tool covers about 4,000 companies. For each company, it displays the information available in four categories: analysis of climate transition, commitments, disclosure and climate-related shareholder engagement. Equally importantly, it shows where the gaps lie.
We hope that this helps NGOs understand what other assessments exist and who they can work with, broadening the scope and impact of their work, and avoiding the need for similar mapping exercises within each organization.
Updates to the tool
This year, we’ve refined the tool’s features and added new analysis, in response to participation and feedback from the many NGOs that use the tool.
The new version includes an improved visual layout, designed to provide clearer, more intuitive access to information.
The tool currently includes 24 data sets from 10 NGOs. We have also added one new data set: Global Canopy’s Forest IQ, which provides information on more than 2,000 companies.
Next steps
The tool will continue to develop this AGM season and into the future. One challenge is name-matching data sets from multiple sources – we will work with our NGO partners to improve this over time.
A climate community effort
The tool was built with and reflects the work of the climate community – part of the collective effort to increase corporate transparency and action, at speed and at scale. We are grateful to the NGOs that participate in this project and contribute data to the tool.
NGOs can request access to the updated tool at the link below.
